A Rumble is discovered in Battersea Park by Knocker and   Lightfoot, the Battersea lookouts. An elite team of Borribles is  assembled from eight different boroughs to embark on 'The  Great Rumble Hunt', a strike to assassinate the Rumble High Command. Knocker is permitted to be one of the trainers of the group, and his obsession with getting a second name drives him to wiggle his way onto the mission. However, Knocker is also given a hidden agenda by his house steward Spiff, and as the mission goes on, it becomes clear that one of the other Adventurers may have one as well.

Roughly six months after the Rumble Hunt, Chalotte is contacted by Sydney, who has received a message through the Borrible grapevine that Sam the horse is alive and needs help. The remaining adventurers assemble themselves and go with Spiff to investigate. However, they wind up fleeing into Wendle country when the newly-created SBG rears its head. There they find out that the Rumble Treasure is causing trouble once again, and that Spiff has a lot of secrets he hasn't been telling anyone. Despite their mistrust, the adventurers wind up having to help Spiff on a personal quest of his own in order to save their lives and those of their friends.

The SBG is cracking down on Battersea, this time employing dwarves as spies. Worn down from being on the run for months, the adventurers know they have to get Sam to safety before a lack of decent care kills him. In desperation, they embark on a cross-London journey to take Sam to Neasden. Along the way they have to dodge the SBG and their 'extra lookouts', predatory meffos, and a host of other Borrible tribes.

This book is a little more slow-starting than the others, but brutally relentless once it gets going.
